The Challenges of Relapse Escape Room, designed to immerse participants in an actual bedroom of a patient with schizophrenia, was developed by the FCB agencies TRIO and Studio Rx for client Janssen Neuroscience and deployed at the May 2019 American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting. 

Axios NYC designed and fabricated an experience that allowed a team of four participants to be immersed in the world of a patient with schizophrenia. Once inside the full-sized room, informational videos are played and clues provided so participants can search for objects that are potential signs of impending patient relapse.  When the correct objects inside the room are located, a motion sensor is triggered and after a brief explanation the team is prompted toward the next clue.

Participants at the 2019 American Psychiatric Association were given a five minute countdown clock to find ten clues, and a leaderboard was introduced so teams could compete against each other. This immersive experience allowed for a technologically-driven activation while providing the tactile gameplay of an escape room and integrating the educational and informational messaging to remind health care professionals of the everyday challenges of their patients.
